Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

I am currently taking a vitamin D supplement. What do I have to consider when testing?

If you are currently taking vitamin D supplements and want to check your levels, you should follow a few important tips to get a reliable test result:

Distance from last dose: After taking it, the vitamin D level in the blood increases briefly. To obtain a more stable and meaningful value, the blood sample should ideally be taken at least 24 hours after the last dose.

Regularity of intake: If you have been taking vitamin D consistently over a long period of time, your blood value usually shows your actual supply status. Single ingestions shortly before the test can falsify the result and provide a distorted picture.

Dose and duration of supplementation: Write down how long you took vitamin D and in what dosage. This information is particularly helpful for interpreting the results - especially if they are to be assessed later by medical professionals.

Why should I take the vitamin D test?

Regular monitoring of the vitamin D level is useful in order to detect changes in the individual supply status at an early stage. Such fluctuations can arise from changes in the seasons, travel or changes in everyday habits. Since the body's own production of vitamin D depends heavily on sunlight and UVB radiation decreases significantly in the winter months - especially in northern regions - the level in the blood can vary significantly. Anyone who takes vitamin D long-term can use regular tests to check whether the level is in the desired range and thus avoid an under- or over-supply. The measurement results help to adjust the dosage in a targeted manner - ideally in consultation with medical professionals.
